Gilded brass planter, model Con Asa, dating from 1850–1900, in Antique style inspired by Napoleon III, with a rounded body, 18 cm height and 37 cm by 37 cm, originating in France in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
It is a late 19th-century brass planter, fully embedded in the decorative universe of the Napoleon III style, where functionality is wrapped in theatricality and the metal takes on an almost sculptural presence. Here the brass, with its warm shine and ancient patina, becomes an expressive material: it softly reflects light, traces the curves with elegance, and reveals the small irregularities that betray the handcraft of the era.
The form, broad and rounded, recalls the domestic containers used in drawing rooms and antechambers, but reinterpreted with a more aristocratic air. The upper handle, sturdy and slightly arched, provides visual balance and functionality, evoking the old service vessels but transformed into a decorative gesture. The body shows that characteristic Second Empire mix: generous lines, defined volume, and a presence that combines luxury and solidity.
The patina of brass, with ochre and gold nuances, speaks of decades of use and of warm interiors where this piece would have coexisted with dark furniture, rich upholstery, and ornamental bronzes. It is a planter that today functions both as an independent decorative object and as an elegant container, imparting historical character, restrained shine, and a nod to French refinement.
Certified shipping and careful wrapping.
