Call bell

a dresser set with a mechanical table bell, made of brass or bronze on an alabaster base. It is a collector’s piece very characteristic of the nineteenth century (Napoleon III style / Victorian Era).
The oval mother-of-pearl element on the base hides a mechanical desk bell mechanism. By pressing the mother-of-pearl or moving the ensemble gently, the bell would ring to summon the servants or staff.
