Description from the seller

Early 18th-century French lantern clock, signed on the front plate, movement with many iron gears, verge escapement, unrestored, no weights but running, with saw-tooth work, transition from iron gears to brass, historically interesting.

• The clockmaker: Plassiardet was a clockmaker active in the 18th century.
• The location: PONTAVDEMER (now written as Pont-Audemer) is a historic town in the Normandy region (Eure department), in the northwest of France. The spelling with a 'V' instead of a 'U' (PONTAVDEMER) is typical of the 17th and 18th centuries, because the 'V' and 'U' in inscriptions and Latin capitals were often used interchangeably at that time.
• Specific trace: In the past there has been a spectacular and extremely large example from this maker (signed Plassiardet à Pont Audemer) appearing on the antique market that was precisely dated to 1728. It is highly likely that your clock stems from exactly the same period (the early 18th century, during the Régence or early Louis XV period).
