Java and Leinbrock-Werke table coffee grinders, Netherlands and Germany, first half of the 20th century

This lot comprises two table coffee grinders of different brands and origins, which together present a beautiful picture of European coffee grinding culture from the first half of the twentieth century.

The left grinder is from the Dutch brand Java and is housed in a square wooden casing of light beech or fruitwood, with a wavy top and a nickel-plated grinding mechanism with a domed hood and an iron crank with a wooden handle. On the front is a gold-colored nameplate bearing the brand name Java. At the bottom there is a slide-out drawer with a wooden knob.

The right grinder is from the German brand Leinbrock-Werke and features a striking terracotta-red paint finish across the entire wooden body, with a diamond-shaped nameplate on the front. The nickel-plated grinding mechanism has a similar domed shape, but is equipped with a differently shaped crank mechanism on top. At the bottom likewise a slide-out drawer with a wooden knob.

Both grinders are complete and functional, with signs of wear appropriate for objects of this age. The red finish on the Leinbrock shows flaking, giving the piece an authentic, well-worn character. A characterful pair for the collector of vintage kitchenware.
