Description from the seller
The beautiful large shell of the operculum Trochus niloticus – Tectus niloticus, a popular trade name for the outer shell, is a species of sea snail, the mollusk of Tegulidae sea snails. The large, heavy shell is conical in shape and appears perforated. It is covered with calloused stripes, a brown or yellowish epidermis, usually worn away on the upper whorls. The color beneath the epidermis is white, longitudinally striped with purple, purple or reddish-brown. The base of the shell is mottled or radially striped with a lighter shade thereof. The apex is strictly conical. The top is sharp, usually eroded. The shell contains 8-10 whorls. The upper surface is lumpy at the sutures and spirally thickened, another flat on the outer surface, smooth, separated by a linear seam. The sutures are widely sunken and compressed with a blunt outline, more or less convex on the bottom, indented along the axis. The umbilicus is covered with a pearly spiral that penetrates deeply into the callus. The opening is transverse and very oblique. The columella is inclined, ends under the tooth and above it in a strong spiral fold, deeply embedded in the axis. The operculum is round, thin, horned, orange-brown and consists of about 10 whorls. dimensions 140×125×140 mm weight 416 grams
A recommendation for collectors and interior designers.
