Description from the seller

Original Viking Bronze Bracelet (8th–11th Century) with Certificate
General Characteristics

An exceptional bracelet from the Viking Age, representing a remarkable example of the skill of early medieval Scandinavian craftsmen. It is distinguished by its massive, harmonious form and characteristic multi-faceted terminals that give it a unique appearance. Such ornaments served as an important element of attire, emphasizing the social status, wealth, and position of the owner.

Material and Manufacture

The artifact was made of high-quality ancient bronze – a durable alloy of copper and tin widely used during the Viking Age. The bracelet was crafted with great precision, resulting in a compact and solid structure that, thanks to the properties of the alloy, has survived in excellent condition for over a thousand years.

Structure and Characteristic Terminals

The bracelet has a classic open form with a wide hoop of slightly tapering cross-section. Its most distinctive feature is the massive, multi-faceted terminals with a clearly geometric shape. Carefully formed ends give the piece a monumental character and represent a feature commonly found in Viking-period decorative objects.

Ornamentation and Craftsmanship

Although the form of the bracelet remains simple and monumental, it is enriched with subtle decoration reflecting a high level of ancient craftsmanship. Along both edges of the hoop runs a delicate engraved ornamental band forming an elegant border encircling the entire bracelet. Precisely executed incisions emphasize the contour of the object and give it a refined character, perfectly complementing the massive geometric terminals. This combination of simple forms with discreet ornamentation reflects the characteristic aesthetics of Viking Age Scandinavian art.

Condition and Patina

The object is preserved in very good archaeological condition. The entire surface is covered with a natural, noble patina in shades of malachite green, olive brown, and natural copper oxides. This layer of mineralization developed over centuries of burial and highlights the authentic character of the artifact. The bracelet has not been subjected to aggressive chemical cleaning, which allowed it to retain its historical surface.

Dating and Chronology

Based on its form, manufacturing technique, and stylistic features, the bracelet is dated to the period between the 8th and 11th centuries AD, the full span of the Viking Age. Comparable examples are known from Scandinavia as well as regions along Viking trade routes in the Baltic Sea area and Eastern Europe.

Documentation and Authenticity

The bracelet is offered with a Certificate of Authenticity containing a detailed archaeological description and an expert opinion regarding its authenticity and origin. The document serves as a valuable addition for collectors and confirms the originality of this exceptional Viking Age artifact.
