Imperial style coin cabinet in solid walnut, circa 1900, with six drawers and overall dimensions 78 × 50 × 32 cm, in good used condition with minor age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Important Empire-era money cabinet, derived from the interior of a small cabinet belonging to an Imperial secretary, subsequently adapted with a custom-made wooden containment framework. A piece with great charm and notable workmanship, entirely made of solid walnut, including the internal structures and the drawer linings.
The structure comprises six drawers: a large drawer at the base, a large one at the top, and four smaller side drawers, arranged symmetrically around an elegant arched central compartment. On the front are refined decorative half-columns that confer further architectural balance and a distinctly Empire-style taste.
All drawers retain the original Varese paper lining, perfectly adherent and in excellent condition. All the original Empire-period escutcheons with gilded sheet metal are present; the smaller drawers are fitted with lion-head and ring pulls, of particular decorative value.
The piece shows a splendid original patina and is in excellent overall conservation; restorations made over time are plausible, compatible with the period and with the intended use of the piece.
