Italian Art Deco low sideboard from the 1930s–1940s, finished with a matte coral-orange lacquer over a central walnut burl veneer, with two side open compartments and a central section comprising two drawers above a two-door cabinet, dimensions 180 cm wide by 78 cm high by 51 cm deep, constructed in wood with original period hardware, sold in worn condition with signs of use and probable small missing pieces.
Description from the seller
Low Sideboard – Walnut Burl Finish – Italy, 1930s/40s
Charming low sideboard (buffet) in Art Deco style, dating to the first half of the 20th century. The piece features a solid architectural structure, recently revisited with an artisanal matte coral-orange lacquer finish, creating a bold contrast with the original flame walnut burl veneer on the central body. An eclectic design piece, ideal for insertion into modern, vintage, or industrial settings.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN:
Configuration: The piece offers a triple division of space. On the sides there are two wide open compartments (no doors), ideal as a bookshelf or for displaying art objects. The central section comprises two adjacent drawers at the top and a two-door lower compartment with an internal shelf.
Finishes: The exterior of the structure has been hand-finished in coral tone. The fronts of the drawers and central doors preserve the splendid original walnut burl veneer, with symmetric grain arranged in a mirror pattern that enhances the natural design of the wood.
Hardware: Original period handles on the drawers and door, made of Bakelite or contemporaneous plastic, amber/honey-colored with copper-toned metal supports. The central lock cylinder is brass.
CONDITION REPORT AND DETAILED EXAMINATION:
The piece is structurally solid but presents as visible in the photos, with evident and widespread signs of time, use, and the natural movement of the underlying solid wood. It is sold as a piece for conservative restoration or to be kept as-is for lovers of the “shabby/industrial lived-in” style.
