Description from the seller
This is a work of high textile craftsmanship, a classic example of a luxurious linen set typical of the European tradition (very common in refined Italian or French productions from the first half of the 20th century). It is made of pure ecru-colored linen, natural cream. The weave is dense and regular, a sign of high-quality yarn that feels fresh to the touch and offers great durability over time.
Lace Work: The most precious feature is the wide Cantù lace edge (or Venetian-type bobbin lace). A very complex workmanship is evident with:
Venice Stitch and Net Stitch: The different lace densities create a play of transparency and reliefs.
Floral Motifs and Scrolls: The lace pattern is rich in baroque and stylized floral motifs, extending inward toward the tablecloth with shaped points.
Embroidery and Finishes:
Solid Stitch and Grass Stitch: The body of the tablecloth features delicate hand-embroidered floral motifs that echo the lace designs.
Openwork (Hemstitch): The connection between the lace and the linen is finished with a meticulous hemstitch, serving as a decorative frame.
Carving: Small carved insertions with eyelet-finished edges are present within the floral embroidery.
The Napkins
The coordinated napkins reproduce the same style as the tablecloth:
They feature a corner lace insert identical to that of the main edge.
The edges are finished with a hand-sewn narrow hem, preserving the elegance of the entire set.
