Description from the seller
A two-tiered dark wood side table or reading stand (often known as a “Reader’s Stand”), most commonly found in the Edwardian and Arts and Crafts styles of the late 1800s.
Style and construction
Construction: The side table is made of solid, dark-stained hardwood (typically oak).
Two-tier design: Under the smooth top is a built-in lower shelf, originally intended for storing books or magazines.
Legs and decoration: The legs feature a distinctive, turned or carved geometric shape, and the upper connecting element (apron) is enhanced with delicate, curved, lug- or teardrop-shaped decorative elements.
The tabletop features masterful carvings by carpenters, including figures, animals, houses, and more.
Richly carved tabletop and side elements, with a smooth, circular field in the center of the tabletop.
The side of the table has a maker's mark, F.M. Becker, and the date 1885.
The antique piece is in exceptionally good condition, the paint is chipped in some places, but it is still very stable, complete and contains original elements throughout.
We can post it carefully packaged, in an insured, registered package.
