Charles & Ray Eames – DAX Chair in fiberglass “Light Ochre” – Herman Miller / Vitra – circa 1965-1975

Icon of 20th-century design, this DAX chair (Dining Height Armchair X-Base) was designed by Charles & Ray Eames and issued by Herman Miller / Vitra between the 1960s and 1970s.

The shell is made of real molded fiberglass in the original color Light Ochre, a warm shade now particularly sought after by Mid-Century Modern furniture enthusiasts. It rests on its original X-Base pedestal, kept in very good condition, with a uniform black finish and only very light signs of use.

The various markings present allow locating this production among the early European editions:

• Heat-stamped “V” mark under the shell.
• Shock mounts marked “H”.
• Shell, fittings and base all-original.

The chair has not undergone any heavy restoration or replacement of parts. The fiberglass is in very good condition, with no cracks or breaks. It shows only a few light signs of use, tiny superficial scratches and a beautiful natural patina, perfectly consistent with its age.

This chair is an iconic piece of American design, ideal both for a modernist interior and for a collection devoted to Charles & Ray Eames' creations.
