Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A pair of Bronze Age bronze flat arrowheads with leaf-shaped blades and tangs, each about 7.3 cm long and 2.0–2.2 cm wide, showing patination and encrustations with edge chips, acquired from a private collection and dating to 1200–600 BC.
Description from the seller
A pair of Bronze Age bronze flat arrowheads, both featuring a leaf-shaped blade with a very subtle midrib and a tang. One arrowhead has a shorter but wider blade, and a straight tang which is relatively long, whilst the other displays a shorter tang which tapers to a point. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Chips to the edges of the blades.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 7.3cm x W 2cm; L 7.3cm x W 2.2cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
