8 Collotype Prints
Following the 2023 release of *Hokkaido*, we are pleased to present Michael Kenna’s second mini-portfolio, *Shikoku*. This series takes as its subject the “Ohenro”—a pilgrimage around Shikoku visiting the 88 sacred sites associated with Kobo Daishi (Kukai). It is said that walking the entire route covers a distance of approximately 1,400 kilometers and takes more than 40 days. Since 2003, Kenna has traveled to Shikoku countless times, visiting many of these sacred sites. He has photographed pilgrims, temples, rock gardens, offerings, stone lanterns, and stone Buddha sculptures through his unique, poetic lens. This portfolio contains eight works, creating a series with a distinct atmosphere from his “Hokkaido” collection.
