Two bronze cornucopias in an antique Napoleonic III style, dating to 1850–1900 from France, each with a central panel framed by decorative curves and birds, external measurements 38 cm high by 22 cm wide (internal 14 by 10 cm), condition good used with minor signs of age, model Aves, titled Cornucopias Escultóricas.
Description from the seller
They are two bronze cornucopias that fully embody the ornamental spirit of the Napoleon III style of the 19th century, where decorative fantasy, theatricality, and the mixing of historical references become a visual language. Here, the metal is worked with controlled exuberance: curves, scrolls, volutes, and small reliefs that create a vibrant frame, almost stage-like, around the central panel.
The silhouette is typically nineteenth-century: a wavy outline that rises and opens at the top, crowned by birds modeled with elegance, a motif very characteristic of the ornamental repertoire of the Second Empire. These birds, stylized yet recognizable, provide a symbolic and dynamic touch, like guardians of the frame, and reinforce the sense of a luxury domestic piece.
The bronze, with its warm patina, shows that balance between shine and aging that gives depth to the reliefs. The front legs, slightly curved, elevate the cornucopia and give it sculptural presence, while the sides are filled with vegetal motifs and serpentine lines that recall both late Rococo and French Neorenaissance reinterpreted by Napoleon III’s taste.
Taken together, these two cornucopias are a magnificent example of 19th-century ornamental craftsmanship: decorative pieces intended to draw the eye, to dress an interior with character, and to display the mastery of the bronciers who worked for a clientele seeking luxury, fantasy, and sophistication.
Insured shipping and careful packaging.
