Two doré bronze ormolu candelabras in the antique Louis XV style, dating to the 19th century, each featuring a seated cherub and a floral candle cup, with a 20 cm height and a 10 × 10 cm base.
Description from the seller
They are two candelabra that perfectly embody the spirit of Louis XV reinterpreted in the nineteenth century, where the love of ornament, the curvilinear, and the theatrical blends with the French bronze-on-ormolu technique to produce luminous, warm, profoundly decorative pieces. Each candelabrum centers on the figure of a seated cherub, modeled with a childlike grace that is not naive, but deliberately courtly: rounded bodies, sweet faces, wavy hair that seems to move with the light.
The cherubs hold aloft on their heads a floral cup that serves as a candlestick, a gesture reminiscent of the Atlantean and caryatid figures in Rococo furniture, but rendered here in a more intimate and playful register. The base, lavishly decorated with scrollwork, acanthus leaves, and volutes, creates a small stage where the child figure integrates naturally, as if emerging from a golden garden. The curves are soft, the transitions fluid, and the ormolu gold — still brilliant, uniform, and with no visible wear — provides that warm glow that only comes from well-preserved pieces crafted with care.
The ensemble conveys gentle luxury, courtly fantasy, and a highly decorative sensuality typical of late Rococo reinterpreted in the nineteenth century, when workshops reclaim the cherub iconography as a symbol of joy, innocence, and playful beauty. They are pieces that not only illuminate: they tell a small story, add movement to the space, and bring that touch of gilded theatrics that defines the Louis XV style.
