An authentic Dutch street sign from the 70s-80s bearing the name Jacques Urlusstraat, rendered in the characteristic dark blue color with raised white relief letters. Beneath the street name is the historic designation: “Dutch tenor 1867–1935.” This original municipal street sign combines functional design with cultural heritage and forms a distinctive collector’s item.

Jacques Urlus (1867-1935) was one of the most famous Dutch heroic tenors of his time. He gained international fame with performances in the great opera houses of Europe and the United States and was especially loved for his interpretations of Wagner’s operas. Urlus performed, among others, in Bayreuth, London, Berlin and New York and is still regarded as one of the most important Dutch opera singers in music history. To honor his exceptional career, streets in several Dutch municipalities are named after him.

This street sign is made of metal with embossed relief letters, a robust production method that was widely used from the 70s onward due to excellent readability and long lifespan. The deep blue background, the clean typography and the beautiful patina give the sign a strong industrial look. The original backside with mounting construction underscores the authenticity.

Condition

In good vintage condition with normal signs of use appropriate for years of outdoor exposure. There are light scratches, small paint damage and locally some superficial oxidation visible, appropriate for the age.
