Description from the seller
Elegant wall crucifix of European manufacture (likely Italian or French) dating to the first half of the 20th century (circa 1910-1930). The object is distinguished by a rich neobaroque aesthetic, characterized by sinuous lines, volutes and decorative cartouches. The main structure is made of stamped brass sheet, shaped with a glossy finish, enhanced by a dark patina that highlights the reliefs. The interior houses a red Bordeaux-colored velvet insert, creating a strong and evocative chromatic contrast. On the velvet are applied three elements in gilded metal: the upper cartouche with the inscription "INRI", the stylized body of Jesus Christ, and, at the bottom, the traditional skull with crossed bones, ancient Christian symbolism of Golgotha (and memento mori). The back preserves the closing brass counterplate and the original suspension ring. Period: Early 20th Century (circa 1910-1930) • Material: stamped brass, red velvet, gilded metal applications • Style: Neobarocco / Eclectic • Iconography: Christ Crucifix with "Memento Mori" at the base • Condition: • Excellent vintage condition, fully consistent with age. The brass retains a splendid luster with light and natural signs of time oxidation on the back and in the recesses. The red velvet is intact, without tears, with a light patina of the era. Solid structure ready to hang. Please study carefully the attached photo gallery, which shows the object from multiple angles and attests to its actual state of preservation.
