Tempera and gold leaf on wooden panel
Rare Russian Orthodox icon of type “Feasts,” presenting an important cycle of scenes from the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and the main liturgical feasts of the Orthodox Church. The different compositions are accompanied by inscriptions in Church Slavonic and executed in a traditional palette dominated by reds, ochers, and greens.
This icon constitutes a fine example of 19th-century Russian production, intended for private devotion while offering a rich iconographic synthesis of the Orthodox liturgical calendar.
Condition: wear, craquelure, small losses and old restorations, consistent with age. The set presents a beautiful patina and good readability of the scenes.
