Splendid portrayal of Benino, the sleeping shepherd, one of the most iconic figures of the Neapolitan nativity tradition. According to nativity symbolism, Benino represents the dream from which the entire Nativity scene comes to life, and is considered the symbol of rebirth and hope.

The work was created by master Neapolitan artisans in the 1970s/1980s, with a head, hands and feet in polychrome terracotta finely modeled and hand-painted, clothes in fabric and a scenography rich in details, composed of natural cork, wood, moss and handcrafted accessories that recreate a suggestive rural environment, typical of the finest Neapolitan nativity tradition.
