Dish (2) - Earthenware - Large Delfts chargers

A magnificent, matching pair (pendant) of monumental plates of authentic Dutch Delft tin-glazed earthenware, dating from the mid-18th century.

Both plates feature a beautiful, hand-painted Chinese-inspired transitional decoration of a still life with antiquities, books, and various vases, with a bird prominently positioned on the central vase as the focal point. The interior is elegantly framed with a rich, continuous floral garland. Although they share the same classical theme, the subtle variations in the painting are the ultimate proof of artisanal craftsmanship.

Left plate:

Diameter 34.2 cm | Height 5.8 cm. Typical rim wear (fritting) with some glaze loss here and there at the rim. A few fine hairline cracks on the back, exclusively in the glaze layer (no crack in the body).

Right plate:

Diameter 35.3 cm | Height 5.5 cm. Characteristic age-related wear on the rim. Also, a few superficial glaze lines on the underside, without affecting the body of the plate.

General: Unmarked, as is very common for this period. Both plates are in honest, original condition without continuous cracks, restorations, or glued breaks.

Thanks to their impressive size and striking cobalt blue hues, these generous plates form a beautiful decorative ensemble, ideal for display on a cabinet wall or on the wall.
