Tobacco box (table-top humidor) of oval shape, an authentic example of great historical value fabricated in the 18th century (c. 1750–1780).
The piece presents a refined combination of metals. The lid and base are in gilded brass, the curved side (ring) in beaten copper, creating a magnificent chromatic contrast, very typical of the decorative metallurgy of this period.
The lid features superb hand engraving, done with a burin in the classic 18th-century script, bearing the name of its original owner: "S. T. Bergstra" (surname of Frisian/Dutch origin).
