Description from the seller

Beautiful Baroque wooden Frame

This is an antique framing label (inlijstetiket) from Charles Manteau, a well-known framer and gilder based at 172 Rue Royale in Brussels.

The beautiful gilded frame around this painting is connected with the name Charles Manteau, a well-known art dealer from Brussels around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. About the frame and origin Although the term "Charles Manteau lijst" is often used to denote a specific style or quality, it primarily refers to the origin through his art dealing business. Charles Manteau: He was active in Brussels and bought and sold important works, including those of the Hague School and old masters.

The label states that he "Fournisseur de Sa Majesté la Reine des Belges"; i.e. Supplier to Her Majesty the Queen of the Belgians.
The text points to a craftsman business specializing in framing of art and decorative works.

Such labels are often found on the reverse of paintings or mirrors from the 19th century.
