Description from the seller

Professional academic sculpture, completely handmade by professional craftsmen. A piece from a museum plaster cast collection. The work has very ancient origins and is carried out by artists in the sculptural field, made with materials such as scagliola and Carrara marble dust.

Antinous (circa 110-130 AD), a youth of extraordinary beauty native to Bithynia, was the companion of Emperor Hadrian, with whom he formed a deep bond. He died tragically by drowning in the Nile, an event that prompted Hadrian to deify him, establish a cult in his honor, and found the city of Antinoopolis. Antinous became a symbol of ideal beauty and immortality, celebrated through statues and monuments that depict him with divine features, blending Greek, Roman, and Egyptian influences.
