Rare collector’s edition of Balkan Pank by Slovenian photographer Jože Suhadolnik, published by Akina Books in 2014. This special edition was produced in a limited edition of only 50 copies, with handmade Coptic binding and a screen-printed cover on thick board.
Balkan Pank documents the punk and underground counterculture of former Yugoslavia during the late 1970s and 1980s. Suhadolnik began photographing this scene at a very young age, capturing concerts, nightlife, intimate portraits and the raw energy of a generation living outside official culture.
The photographs are grainy, direct and full of movement, giving the book the feeling of being inside the scene itself. More than a music photobook, it is an important visual record of youth culture, resistance and self-expression in a non-aligned Communist country.
A scarce and highly collectible edition, especially desirable for collectors of punk photography, underground culture, Eastern European photobooks and limited-edition artist books.
