5-Pound silver commemorative coin issued by Egypt to commemorate the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), held in Cairo in 1994 under United Nations auspices. The obverse features a richly ornamental Arabic calligraphic composition, accompanied by decorative medallions and the date in Islamic and Gregorian calendars, following the Islamic art tradition of modern Egyptian numismatics. The reverse shows the official logo of the ICPD Cairo 94 conference, surrounded by a crown of Arabic inscriptions. The specimen retains much of its original luster, with sharp relief and attractive fields showing light contact marks typical of its MS63 grade. This issue constitutes an interesting testament to an international event of significance held in Egypt during the 1990s.
