Description from the seller
They are two candelabras that fully fit the Louis XVI aesthetic, that distinctive blend of balance, symmetry, and refinement that marked the transition from Rococo to a more sober classicism. Here, crafted in silvered brass or German nickel silver, they retain that slightly cold, elegant glow that distinguishes noble metals when intended for dining or drawing-room pieces.
The structure is classic: a stylized central stem rises firmly, from which the curved arms extend, perfectly proportioned, ending in cups for five lights. The curves are restrained, never excessive, and the details—grooves, discreet volutes, small moldings—respond to that taste for measured ornamentation that defines the style.
The base, broad and fluted, provides stability and an almost architectural air, as if the piece rested on a base of a classical column. All of it speaks of the late 19th or early 20th century, when French tradition continued to set trends and European workshops produced candelabras of great presence for dining rooms, salons, and ceremonies.
They are pieces that today still retain their ability to confer gravitas to a space: elegant without rigidity, decorative without stridency, heirs of a formal language that continues to work more than a century later.
Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
