Description from the seller
Volkswagen Beetle 1200 Saxomat 6V – 1965
Conserved, almost entirely in original paint, ASI Gold Plate
Overview
Offered in exceptional preservation conditions, this authentic Volkswagen Beetle 1200 6 Volt in the very rare Saxomat semi-automatic version represents one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find variants for the brand enthusiasts.
The car was built on June 14, 1965 and registered on July 23, 1965. Until 1969 it remained at the official Volkswagen dealership in Gorizia as a demonstrator vehicle, after which it was sold to a single owner who has safeguarded it with extraordinary care for over fifty years.
The Saxomat system, today little known even among Volkswagen specialists, makes this example particularly rare. Contributing to its charm are the high degree of originality, almost all of the first-layer paint, and the truly remarkable state of preservation.
Conditions
The interiors are completely original and well preserved, as is the mileage of 93,323 km, considered authentic.
As is natural for a car over sixty years old, there are slight signs of wear that attest to its originality and enhance its charm, without compromising its overall quality.
The car is equipped with Italian plates and documents ready for transfer of ownership and is regularly registered with ASI with:
ASI Historic Relevance Certificate;
ASI Identity Certificate;
Gold Plate homologation.
Maintenance
After being legally stopped at the end of the 1990s, the car was put back on the road in December 2023, following careful routine maintenance including:
replacement of the brake pump and the front and rear wheel cylinders;
replacement of the front and rear brake pipes;
carburetor cleaning;
replacement of all fuel lines;
interior tank treatment with Tankerite;
replacement of spark plugs;
replacement of engine oil;
replacement of transmission oil;
replacement of the battery;
replacement of the front hub nuts with corresponding washers;
professional bodywork polishing.
There are a few paint touch-ups performed over the years on small portions of the body, as documented in the photographs.
Originality and equipment
The electrical system is perfectly functional, as is all mechanicals. The car is ready to be driven and tackle any journey.
Included with the car:
original user and maintenance manual;
original Saxomat system supplement;
original Volkswagen-branded glass;
original first-assembly keys and locks.
Considerations
Finding a Saxomat Beetle today is already extremely difficult. Locating one with such a well-documented history, a single private owner, almost entirely in original paint, ASI Gold Plate certification, and such a high level of originality represents an opportunity for the most demanding collectors and Volkswagen enthusiasts.
Additional information
The car is viewable in Reggio Calabria, Italy.
Transfer of ownership costs (or for export demolition) and transportation are borne by the buyer.
On request, it is possible to organize transport of the car throughout Italy and worldwide, by agreement.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
