Description from the seller
Elegant pair of octagonal-shaped porcelain plates decorated with enamels from the Rose Family, belonging to Chinese export production (East India Company), presumably from the Qianlong period (18th century) or a later style. As visible in the photos, the two pieces feature distinct but complementary floral decorations.
The pieces show the natural wear expected for their age, with slight loss of enamels and of the original gilding. The plate decorated with floral garlands presents a few specific defects that require detailed mention, as documented in the close-up images:
- Small flaw/chip with loss of glaze and material at the octagonal edge of the rim.
- Presence of a very fine hairline crack that extends from the rim toward the center of the rim.
- Another small flaking/old glaze flaw on the edge, next to a floral sprig.
Both plates bear a circular auction label inscribed "Palácio do Correio Velho 303/2", indicating their provenance or prior passage through this prestigious Portuguese auction house.
Diameter: 23 cm
Shipping and customs costs will be borne by the buyer via registered mail.
