Old Mask from the Ekoi tribe of Cameroon.
The entire face is covered with genuine leather. The region's Cross-River artistic production is exceptional for its use of a technique (unique in Africa!), which consists of wrapping a carved wooden core in animal skin. This technique is primarily used for crests and helmet masks. The skin is first tanned and then stretched over the wood, bringing texture, shine, and volume, giving a surprisingly realistic look to the pieces (the mask is in very good condition!).
