Description from the seller
GENERAL:
Mercedes-Benz 230GE year 1983, manual 4-speed with high/low transfer and central locking, and central differential locks. The odometer shows 80,100 km and, based on the overall mechanical condition of the car, they seem real. As a point of interest for enthusiasts and collectors, 1983 was a symbolic year for the Geländewagen saga, consolidating the robustness of the W460 series. The 2.3-liter M102 engine with Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection present in this 230GE version represented a great leap in reliability and responsiveness compared to the earlier carbureted models, being one of the most durable mechanics of the era due to its excellent balance between torque and simplicity. This exact model shares the military and rescue DNA that made the G-Class famous worldwide, turning it into a rising value in the current classic car market thanks to its iconic three-lock configuration.
BODYWORK AND PAINT:
The body has small areas of rust in several places as can be seen in the photos, which is common in these cars since they tend to rust over the years, but there are no large or significant holes, making a base that is easy to repair. The tailgate has almost no rust and is not sagging from its mounts. The chassis also shows little rust and does not require welding or anything similar. The lower mechanical section has quite a few rust marks but they are purely superficial, which guarantees that the vehicle has not been in coastal areas or high mountains. The rear of the trunk shows no damage, dents, scratches, or scuffs, proving that it has not been subjected to rough handling. The original iron wheels need painting to look perfect, but as a whole they provide a very good base for a good and quick restoration.
MECHANICS:
The engine starts easily and runs very smoothly. It requires routine basic maintenance consisting of changing accessory belts, filters, and oil. The gearbox operates well and smoothly, while the clutch also functions correctly without showing wear. The braking system responds well, including the handbrake. The tires are in good condition to pass the ITV (vehicle inspection) without any problem. The suspension and shock absorbers work properly. On the road it drives very well, staying firm with no balljoint play or unusual noises of any kind.
INTERIOR:
The cabin is notably well preserved for its age, where the seat upholstery and headlining are in good condition, maintaining the original, rugged atmosphere of the Mercedes-Benz cars from the 1980s.
DOCUMENTATION:
The available documentation consists of the French gray card signed with the sale deregistration. With this documentation the vehicle is perfectly eligible to be registered as a classic or historic car in any European Union member country.
PICKUP:
The vehicle is available for inspection and pickup in the town of Rellinars, in the province of Barcelona (Autonomous Community of Catalonia), Spain.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
