Description from the seller
Lega Bwami Initiation Masks – Pair of Hand-Carved Wooden Masks
A striking pair of traditional Lega-style wooden masks inspired by the visual language of the Bwami society of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their contrasting forms, white kaolin-style facial decoration, and natural fiber elements create a strong decorative presence while reflecting one of Central Africa’s most recognizable artistic traditions. Sets of complementary masks are appreciated by collectors of African tribal art and also display well in contemporary and ethnic-inspired interiors.

Production period: 20th century
Style: Traditional Lega tribal ceremonial masks, hand-carved wood with natural fiber and white pigment decoration.

The natural fiber attachments show expected wear and irregularities. It will be shipped exactly as shown in the photographs, so please examine all images carefully.
The Lega people are widely recognized for the artistic tradition associated with the Bwami initiation society, where carved masks and figures conveyed moral teachings and social values.
