Description from the seller
Very rare, sought after by collectors, the beautiful shell Lambis digitata - Ophioglossolambis digitata is a species of sea snail, a marine snail in the family Strombidae, true shells.
There are many species of spider shells worldwide, each with its characteristic features. The species Lambis digitata belongs to the group with a more ornate appearance.
Although finding a specimen is a rather rare event, it enjoys a fairly wide distribution, occurring from Africa to the Samoan Islands.
Beyond its varied coloration in shades of beige, cream, and brown, this beautiful shell can be distinguished from its Lambis cousins by two features.
First, the surface of the aperture is ribbed. Other species have a smooth aperture. The ribs of the aperture are usually bi-colored, with white crests and dark brown valleys. Second, this is the only Lambis species that has a branched first the 'finger'.
Dimensions - 35/60/135 mm. I highly recommend to collectors of very rare shells.
