Description from the seller

Pile: 100% wool
Warp & Weft: 100% cotton
Quality: hand-knotted
Knot count: 350,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm Origin: Pakistan

Our Samarkand carpets derive their name from a traditional trading center in the Orient—the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Samarkand carpets were produced in the late 19th century by the renowned Swiss trading family Ziegler. Due to the political unrest of the Persian Empire and the strong demand from the West for carpets, Ziegler decided to set up its own production in Sultanabad, Pakistan, and hire some of the best carpet weavers to meet this growing demand. Samarkand carpets are hand-knotted in the finest craftsmanship with about 350,000 knots / m2, and promise very high quality.

Today, Samarkand carpets stand for exceptional quality and modern, Oriental-inspired patterns. The carpets draw inspiration from classic Persian rug design. The wool used is of high quality, and the color palette based on natural plant dyes is softer and more subtle than that of Persian carpets. The shorter pile makes the rug easy to keep clean.
