AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pile: 100% wool
Warp & weft: 100% cotton
Quality: hand-knotted
Knot density: 350,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm Origin: Pakistan

Our Samarkand carpets take their name from a traditional trading place in the Orient - the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Samarkand carpets were produced in the late 19th century by the renowned Swiss trading family Ziegler. Due to the political unrest of the Persian Empire and the strong demand from the West for carpets, Ziegler decided to establish its own production in Sultanabad, Pakistan, and hire some of the best rug weavers to meet this growing demand. Samarkand carpets are woven by hand in the finest craftsmanship with ca. 350,000 knots / m2 and promise very high quality.

Today, Samarkand carpets stand for exceptional quality and modern, Oriental-inspired patterns. The rugs draw inspiration from the classic Persian rug design. The wool used is of high quality and the color palette consisting of natural plant-based dyes is softer and subtler than that of Persian carpets. The shorter pile makes it easier to keep the rug clean.
