Ancient Fang Akuré torque, cast in brass-bronze. These collars, known as “ngos” in the Fang language, were worn by women as a symbol of protection and spiritual connection; they could be heavy and ornate, and were fastened with a hammer against the woman’s neck. Their main function was to ensure the husband’s return in case of leaving the home, which made them valuable not only for personal use but also for their cultural and religious significance.
