Description from the seller
Vintage Travel Bag from the 1930s/50s – Embossed Crocodile-Effect Leather Cowhide with Suede Outer Case and Original Key
Fascinating and imposing antique travel trunk (the "doctor bag" model), dating from the period between the 1930s and 1950s. An example of excellent leather craftsmanship, ideal for both historians of luggage and as an exclusive retro decorative accessory for design homes, lofts, or shop windows.
Materials and Build Details
• Exterior: Sturdy bovine leather with raised crocodile/alligator effect embossing, featuring warm dark brown and cognac tones. The base is protected by metal feet and riveted leather corners.
• Interior: Fully lined in heavyweight beige cotton fabric with roomy elastic side pockets.
• Frame and Closure: Rigid perimeter metal framework with solid brass hardware. Features a central snap latch and two exclusive side bridge clasps (angle swivel clasps) to ensure the maximum security of the contents.
Rare Accessories Included (Complete with everything)
The exceptional aspect of this lot lies in its original accessories, which are almost always missing:
• External protective case: Custom-shaped cover in fine heavy suede fabric (moleskin-style or light suede), incredibly soft to the touch and complete with original vintage buttons. Used to protect the leather during travel.
• Original key: Brass key in perfect working order, attached to the coordinated leather address tag.
Dimensions
• Length: 67 cm
• Height: 37 cm
• Depth: 30 cm
Condition
The item is structurally solid and retains its beautiful patina of age.
The leather shows distortions and flattening on the sides due to prolonged storage (recoverable by keeping the bag filled or with leather moisturizers) and light signs of surface wear. There is a seam opening on the right side of the frame, a defect entirely understandable and consistent with the age and use of the item, which does not compromise its sturdiness and can be easily restored by a leatherworker.
The interior is sound and free of tears, with some natural aging spots. The outer case is in excellent vintage condition.
Sold as-is, as seen in the photos. The images are an integral part of the description.
