Description from the seller
The Fleuron: A Journal of Typography (no V). Editor: Stanley Morrison (known as the designer of the typeface Times New Roman).
This book is the original first edition from 1926 and had a limited print run of 1,250 copies on handmade paper.
The Fleuron was a leading journal on typography edited by the influential typographer Stanley Morison.
This renowned British journal appeared between 1923 and 1930 in seven parts and is worldwide known as one of the most important publications on book printing and typography of the twentieth century. The first four parts were led by Oliver Simon, after which Stanley Morison took over the editing for the last three parts (including this fifth part). This part contains among other things historical studies of classic typefaces such as Garamond.
Historical significance of this specific issue V (5) is bibliographically very important within graphic history. It contains among other things the famous article on the history of the Garamond typeface, written by Beatrice Warde under the pseudonym “Paul Beaumont.” In it she proved that many letters labeled as “Garamond” at the time were in fact cut more than fifty years later by Jean Jannon.
The book shows signs of wear of the life such as age spots. Given its age, the book is in good condition. Photos show an honest image.
