A particularly atmospheric Art Deco serving tray from circa 1930, featuring a richly decorated ceramic plaque set in an elegant silver-plated metal gallery edge. The stylized landscape with a rising sun, river, cypresses and trees is rendered in fresh greens, blues and yellows and reflects the refined design that is so characteristic of the Art Deco period.
Such trays were produced in the 1920s and 1930s as luxury serving trays for tea, coffee or liqueurs and formed a stylish showpiece in the interior. The combination of glazed ceramic and an openwork metal edge with graceful handles fits seamlessly with the decorative vocabulary of the interwar period. Similar trays were produced in large numbers during this period by ceramic factories in, among others, Czechoslovakia and Germany, where high-quality ceramic plaques were combined with metal mounts.
The underside bears the model designation GG 2041 / 40.
The tray is in neat vintage condition with signs of use appropriate for its age. The metal edge and handles show wear and patina. The ceramic plaque has a hairline crack (see detail photo), but no missing parts.
