A handsome set of two original safety lamps from the 1960s and 1970s, consisting of a yellow Berec Autolamp (Made in England) and a red Sonca Lantern 6400 (Made in Hong Kong). These portable battery lamps were for years a staple part of motorists’ safety equipment and were used during breakdowns, emergencies, and roadside work.

Before hazard triangles and modern LED emergency lighting became commonplace, such lamps were standard in the trunk of many cars. Thanks to the sturdy plastic housing, the rugged carrying handle, and the powerful reflector, they offered reliable illumination and increased visibility along the road. The striking colors also made the lamps immediately recognizable as safety equipment.

The Berec Autolamp is manufactured in England and was a popular quality product within Britain’s range of portable lighting. The Sonca Lantern 6400, bearing original markings and instructions on the inside, is a characteristic example of the colorful plastic designs that were sold worldwide in the 1960s and 1970s.

Both lamps are today attractive collectibles for enthusiasts of automobilia, vintage camping gear, industrial design, and retro plastic forms. They are also especially atmospheric as decorations in a garage, mancave, workshop, or vintage interior.
