A Victorian Albany Plate expanding six-division toast rack by John Gilbert & Co., Birmingham, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900. Crafted in silver plate, it features six pointed Gothic-arch divisions and a decorative openwork carrying handle, all raised on four bun feet. The practical concertina design expands smoothly to accommodate toast, bread or letters, while folding flat for convenient storage.
Marked AL (Albany Plate) and John Gilbert & Co., a respected Birmingham manufacturer of high-quality electroplated wares. The elegant Gothic Revival styling and expanding mechanism make this an attractive and functional example of Victorian tableware.
