WMF - Jewellery box - Metal

A jewelry box produced by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), the German metalware factory based in Geislingen an der Steige, dating to the 1920s. The body is constructed from brass with a silver-plate finish and decorated on the exterior with relief work. The lid is set centrally with a round polychrome porcelain miniature depicting a lady in period dress, a decorative feature used by WMF on vanity and desk accessories during the Art Deco period. The interior is lined with beige fabric. The underside bears the WMF factory mark. Condition is Good: the silver-plating shows areas of surface wear and grinding to the coating, as expected for a piece of this age; the porcelain miniature is present and intact; the fabric lining is intact. No repairs or restorations are recorded. Dimensions: 10.3 x 6.5 x 5 cm.
