Description from the seller
Pewter kettle from the Biedermeier period, precisely dated to the year 1847.
The kettle impresses with its simple, elegant cylindrical form and wonderfully documents the practical knowledge culture of the 19th century.
Special features & details:
Historical dating: Directly under the spout there is a time-typical, finely engraved monogram and year-engraving: "C. L. 1847".
The artistically curved handle is fitted with an original, appropriately well-preserved wicker/braid wrap. In the 19th century this served as a practical heat shield when pouring hot drinks.
The cylindrical body is adorned at the top and bottom edges with a continuous, subtle diamond-dot border.
Matching domed lid with an elegantly formed baluster knop.
The base is smoothly turned (no visible maker mark), which is absolutely typical for rural-regional craftsmanship of this era.
The interior shows the authentic, dark signs of age and oxidation from historical use.
The kettle is in a very beautiful, honest original condition with a wonderful dark patina (not over-polished!). The pewter shows normal, age-related signs of use (small scratches and minimal dents), consistent with an age of almost 180 years. The wicker/braid on the handle is stable and remarkably well preserved. The kettle closes and stands absolutely solid.
Height: approx. 16 cm
Diameter (base): approx. 7.5 cm
Weight: approx. 350 g
