Description from the seller

Exceptional and elegant French mantel clock from the Napoleon III period, made around 1855–1865. The case is ebonized mahogany with four solid columns and rich inlay decoration consisting of star motifs and fine filigrees, features typical of French clocks from the mid-19th century. All ornamental elements are in gilded bronze with a splendid natural patina. The original white enamel dial, hand-painted with Roman numerals, is signed “Oger Sens à Metz” in a distinctive Gothic cursive of the time. The movement, with hour strike on a bell, bears the original factory mark of Vincenti & Cie, one of the most prestigious French makers of clock movements in the 19th century, honored with the silver medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1855. The clock is complete with the original lyre-shaped pendulum and the original winding key. Dimensions: height 49.6 cm, width 26.5 cm, depth 16 cm. The case is in excellent condition, the decorative inlay is complete and the gilded bronze retains its natural patina without cleaning. When the hands are moved manually, the mechanism correctly strikes the hours on the bell. The time train requires servicing and currently does not run continuously. A rare and prestigious collector’s piece, combining a high-quality French Vincenti movement with refined Napoleon III-era cabinetry.
