Dirty Pretty Things

Nobuyoshi Araki
IBC/2006/Japanese/150*210*20

Ron Paris Diary (With OBI), a collection of photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki (1940-), one of Japan's leading photographers, who went there in 2005 for his solo exhibition ‘ARAKI: Self, Life, Death’ at the Barbican Art Gallery in London, followed by ‘Palais de Tokyo’ in Paris. Araki presented ‘Arakinema’. This book is a collection of photographs documenting this 10-day trip from London to Paris. It begins and ends with in-flight meals and contains approximately 600 snaps. From street corner snaps to the nightly welcoming parties, the book captures the journey, including what happened in the places visited and the people he met (including photographers Juergen Teller and David Bailey). ). I go to a place and photograph everything I see there, the women I meet there, the things I do. It's like a souvenir of the trip. That's the closest I can get to photography. (That's why this is a very good collection of photographs’ (from the travel diary at the end of the book).
