Rasha

Signed, Nobuyoshi Araki
Takeshobou/1995/Japanese/210*275*5

“Araki: Nude Photography 1995, Vol. 1,” a collection of works by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of postwar Japan’s leading photographers. The 1960s, which began with “Satchin”—the series that won him the Taiyo Prize; the 1970s, epitomized by “Sentimental Journey”—a project born from his encounter with his beloved wife, Yoko, and often regarded as the dawn of “Araki’s personal photography”; the 1980s, marked by his collaboration with renowned editor Akira Suei, which featured provocative imagery and the zenith of “Eros,” as well as his exceptional talent for video expression; and the 1990s, when, following Yoko’s death, he began to express more sentimental sentiments through still lifes and landscapes—Nobuyoshi Araki has continuously explored various styles in tune with his own emotions and the spirit of the times. Even after 2000, he has published a “diary-like” collection of works every year, and since 2010, he has continued his creative activities despite suffering from impaired vision in his right eye; his exhibitions and the publication of photo books have never ceased. This book is a magazine-style collection published by Takeshobo in the 1990s, chronicling a “pseudo-romantic photographic diary” with five women, interspersed with text.
