Description from the seller
Cui Cui
Rinko Kawauchi
Foil/2005/japanese/170*245*20
“Cui Cui” is a collection of works by Japanese female photographer Rinko Kawauchi. To use fashion terminology, she is a photographer whose work is incredibly “real clothes”; through her choice of subjects, her subtly restrained style, and her composition and color palette, she could be described as a central voice capturing the inner world of many Japanese women. Her works could be described not as “affordable luxury,” but rather as “accessible contemporary art.” This book stands alongside *Utatane* and *Hanabi* as one of Kawauchi’s representative works. The following is excerpted from the text on the photographer’s website: “The memories of being loved and protected by the adults around me as I grew up will never fade. *Cui Cui* is a collection of family memories that Rinko Kawauchi has been capturing for the past 13 years. New Year’s gatherings, her brother’s wedding, her grandfather’s death, the birth of a new life… An ordinary family in which everyday events accumulate. The scents of people and the land drift from the landscapes of her hometown. Through repeated encounters and partings, the family lives on forever in her memories. It gently awakens the family albums that we all carry within us.”
