Rare Pair of Solid Imbuia Nightstands & Bronze — D. João V Style — Brazil, c. 1950
Magnificent and highly coveted vintage pair of nightstands, made from solid exotic Imbuia wood. This is two coordinated pieces from the mid-20th century (circa 1950), showcasing superb carpentry work, highlighting the cushioned-front drawer fronts and the sinuous cabriole-style legs.
Technical Details and Materials
Era: 1950s.
Origin: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Imported to Portugal).
Wood: Solid Imbuia (Ocotea porosa), with sumptuous surfaces that display the rich natural grain in honey and dark chocolate tones.
Handles: Solid bronze of exceptional quality, featuring a detailed carved lion head in relief. All drawer fronts retain their corresponding original handles in excellent condition.
Style: D. João V, evidenced by the sinuous cabriole legs, pad feet, and elegant decorative carvings on the side frames.
Condition Report
Structure: In very good vintage condition. Extremely solid and stable wooden structure with no signs of wood-boring insects (caruncha).
Drawers: Four drawers in total (two per piece) sliding perfectly and clean inside.
Finish: Show only an authentic patina from use and time (slight signs of natural wear on the surface of the top, consistent with age).
