123 Polaroids is not simply a selection of 123 images from 223's vast and fabulous collection of Polaroid work, which the artist embarked on in the early 2000s from his hometown of Guangzhou, China. It is a deep dive into his intimate memories of loved ones, his inexpensive Polaroid films, and his travels throughout China, Tibet, Southeast Asia, Japan, and Europe. It is a panoply of his love, fashionable nudity, expressive and flagrant portraits, colorful landscapes and people, bodies entwined in playful melancholy, eroticism, a sense of absence, and more, all shaped by the touch of the astonishing imperfections of this medium and the master's talent.
