Royal Delft De Porceleyne Fles large red craquelé wall plate, 33.5 cm in diameter, depicting two lizards, designed by Cornelius Hartog and hand-painted by Henk J.A. Weinberg, dated 1966 from the experimental 'Red Craquelé' series, in very good used condition.
Description from the seller
Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles) – Rare, large 'Red Crackle' wall plate (33.5 cm) – Decor: Lizards/Salamanders – Design: C. Hartog / Painter: H.J.A. Weinberg – 1966
Offered is an exceptionally rare and sought-after design highlight from De Porceleyne Fles: a monumental wall plate from the iconic, experimental series 'Red Crackle' (produced between 1947-1967).
This specific piece has a diameter of 33.5 cm, the sought-after middle size in this series, and features the rare, modern-styled decor of two lizards (salamanders) surrounded by floral rotating panels.
The groundbreaking and abstract design is by master designer Cornelius Hartog (1903-1965).
The reverse is fully coded and hand-painted in the characteristic flowing red glaze:
Painter's monogram (lower left) H.W
Hand-painted by the renowned top-plate painter Hendrikus (Henk) J.A. Weinberg (active 1938-1971)
Year code (lower right): CK
Firmly dated to production year 1966
Model number (bottom): 270
Due to the very short and small-scale production period of this experimental, modernist line, this object is in practice considerably rarer than the traditional Delft Blue from the early 20th century.
Condition: absolutely excellent state (with no restorations, hairlines, or edge chips).
The crackle network is beautifully evenly distributed across the entire surface. A top piece for the serious collector of rare Dutch Mid-Century design.
Shipping insured and registered.
