Description from the seller
Splendid and iconic round vintage carpet produced in the 1970s by the famous Dutch manufacturer Bergoss.
This piece fully embodies the Space Age and Pop Art aesthetics that redefined interior design of that decade. The rug features a refined abstract geometric motif with a central plan.
The fluid shades gradually blend from light beige and cream, through caramel and tobacco, to a deep dark brown on the outer perimeter.
The high-pile construction in 100% pure virgin wool guarantees exceptional softness, density, and thickness, typical of Dutch textile production of the era.
Production labels still present.
Signs of age and wear clearly visible in the photos.
Just retrieved from the professional laundry.
Photos form an integral part of the lot description.
Shipped insured and traceable.
BIO:
Bergoss (1919 - 1977) was a carpet factory in the Dutch city of Oss. The company originated from a cotton and kapok hydrofil factory, a so-called Cotton Mill, founded by Daniël van den Bergh in 1865. In 1888 Jacob van den Bergh moved the hydrofil cotton factory to the location where Berghkwartier is now. The factory expanded, more looms and steam machines were added. The company thus developed into a rug-weaving mill, which was later expanded with a spinning mill, a dye works, and a washing facility. Ultimately, the site covered 5 hectares. The company was subsequently named Bergoss-Stoddard NV. In 1960 it was renamed Royal Bergoss and the business was taken over as Koninklijke Tapijtfabrieken Bergoss NV. In 1968 it expanded vigorously but from 1974 Bergoss suffered losses. This was not due solely to market conditions but also to poor management. In 1977 Bergoss’s management was replaced. The company was taken over by competitor Osse Desseaux.
